About Us

Educating students who are blind or have low vision

Nayandeep Vidya Mandir Blind School exists to give students who are blind or have low vision a place to learn, grow, and build the skills they need for everyday life -- academically, socially, and personally.

Our mission and vision

Mission: To provide an accessible, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where students with visual impairments can develop their knowledge, skills, confidence, independence, and creativity.

Vision: To empower students with visual impairments to become confident, independent, and capable members of society, with equal opportunities to learn, grow, and participate in the world around them.

Our Story

How the school came to be

The account below is the school's own founding story, as shared for this website -- not an independently verified historical record.

The organization connected with the school's trustees was originally associated with Rotary International. Over time, some of its members formed a smaller group known as the Rotary Charitable Trust.

For many years, the trust held a piece of land associated with the Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) without putting it to use. When BSP indicated it wanted the land back, the trust's members began thinking seriously about what could be built there instead.

When the members went to visit the land, they found it heavily overgrown -- almost like a small forest. As the story is told with some humor today, it looked like a twin of the Amazon rainforest. The members reportedly arrived at around 4:00 a.m., and with no lighting available on site, they used their car headlights to see what they were working with.

From that overgrown plot, the school was built in approximately seven months -- and Nayandeep Vidya Mandir Blind School was born.
